800W plug-in solar UK · 2026 GUIDE

800W, 960W and 2,000W: the UK plug-in solar limits explained

Understand the different power numbers in the 2026 plug-in solar specification: 800VA AC output, 960W professional-assessment threshold and 2,000W PV module limit.

Quick answer

Plug-in solar is now a real Great Britain route, but suitability depends on the complete product, your property, electrical installation, mounting location, permissions and network requirements. Use the checks below before buying.

800VA is the AC output ceiling

The plug-in solar device must be designed so the maximum apparent power supplied to the mains installation does not exceed 800VA and current does not exceed 3.5A.

2,000W is the PV module DC ceiling

The maximum permissible sum of PV module DC power is 2,000W. This means a system can have more panel capacity than the inverter can export at any instant, subject to the complete product design and manufacturer instructions.

960W is a precautionary assessment threshold

Where total PV module maximum power is above 960W, manufacturers must advise consumers to consider professional assessment of the existing electrical installation before installation.

These numbers are not interchangeable

A 1,500W panel array does not mean the system exports 1,500W to the house. Under the plug-in route, inverter AC output remains capped at 800VA.

Why sizing matters

Available physical space may accommodate more PV than is sensible for a particular electrical installation or product. Solixir therefore separates physical panel fit from the electrical-readiness recommendation.
